Ob/Gyn Residency - Current Residents

Meet the current Ob/Gyn residents at WellSpan York Hospital

Our Ob/gyn residents are involved in decision-making regarding their residency education at every level.

Empowered residents with a voice

Residents help design the two-year rotating didactic schedule, plan the educational activities of morning report and lead problem-based learning sessions. Monthly resident business meetings are an opportunity for residents to suggest changes in the residency and identify problems.

Each year, residents spend a half day with faculty doing a deep dive into the residency experience and providing input for larger residency projects and changes. Residents write both the call schedule and assign the operating room schedule each week.

Residents sit on numerous hospital committees in quality improvement, ethics and graduate medical education, as well as local, state and national medical committees. We support our residents' participation in these activities, as it establishes a pattern of engagement we hope will continue throughout their careers.

Kathryn Robinson, MD

I’m Katie! I’m originally from a small, middle-of-nowhere town called Renick, WV. I grew up on a farm and love all things outdoors - gardening, hiking, kayaking, and playing soccer. I also enjoy board games, reading, WVU sports, and wood working. I did my undergraduate at WV Wesleyan and medical school at West Virginia University School of Medicine. While I was there, I became very sure that I wanted to work in underserved communities, and York has many opportunities to work in diverse and low resource populations. I particularly love our Centering Pregnancy group and am passionate about Addiction Treatment in Pregnancy.

Kaitlynn Games, DO

Hometown: Dallas, Texas

Medical school: Kansas City University COM

Undergraduate: Oklahoma State University

I was born in Dallas TX where I spent my entire childhood with 8 brothers and sisters. Watching my mom go through multiple labors instilled in me a curiosity for childbirth. I earned my bachelor's in microbiology at Oklahoma State, GO POKES! I then travelled to Missouri with my new husband for medical school at KCU. Since graduating and matching at York I have welcomed my first kiddo into this world with the help of my lovely co-residents. I hope to bring my new mom knowledge along with me as I finish up my residency training at WellSpan!

Maya Menking-Colby, MD

Hometown: Charleston, West Virginia

Hi! I go by Nadye and I am so happy to learn and serve in the community of York, PA for residency. I grew up in Charleston, WV. I stayed in the state for undergrad and med school at Marshall University in Huntington. It was an easy decision to choose OBGYN as a medical student and as a NHSC Scholar I knew I was looking for a place to help prepare me to be a generalist to underserved communities. I was also excited to find a place where we get a chance to work with midwives because my mother is a proud midwife. I have to say I found the perfect fit at WellSpan! I love the diversity of the area with the comforts of a small town. I moved here with my two cats and husband. He is working as a LPN in the area. We enjoy trying new foods, traveling to DC and Baltimore when we can and hanging out with our friends in York. We especially love a good game night!

Thomas Mitrev, MD

Hometown: Chesapeake, Virginia

Undergraduate: Virginia Tech

I was raised in Chesapeake, Virginia and went just slightly out west to Blacksburg, Virginia for undergraduate education in Biology/Biochemistry at Virginia Tech. I stayed in-state and returned home to Norfolk, Virginia to complete my medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School. During this time, I discovered my love for OB/GYN and come time for residency I packed up and moved out of Virginia for the first time in my adult life to start my career in York, Pennsylvania.

So far, my passion for food and cooking has been well supplied by the amazing local farmer's markets. My partner and I have enjoyed exploring the many county and state parks that this area has to offer to satisfy out itch for hiking and camping.

Elena Benzaquen Garcia, MD

Hometown: San Juan, Puerto Rico

Medical school: University of Puerto Rico

Undergraduate: University of Puerto RIco

I was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. But all my family is from Caracas, Venezuela. I completed my undergraduate degree in the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus in Cellular Molecular Biology. During my last year of college I had the opportunity to shadow an amazing OBGYN and that is how my love for this specialty started. I entered medical school with this goal in mind and in a blink here I am.

I chose Obstetrics and Gynecology as a specialty because it allows be to build long-lasting relationships with my patients, and to guide them through the different stages of their lives involving sexuality, family planning, motherhood, disease management and prevention. I recognize that this specialty allows us the privilege and responsibility of having difficult and sensitive conversations as well as to provide the best possible emotional and physical care to women. I always aspired for a place in which I was accepted and supported, but at the same time would challenge my skills every day. I can now say that in York Hospital Residency Program I found my place. It provides us with robust number of learning and teaching opportunities, but I would say the best part is sharing this journey with my co-residents. Now that I'm far from home, they have become my extended family. In my free time I love going to new restaurants, exercise, go out with friends and fly back home so I can sit and relax at the beach.

Haggar “Zoe” Aspitz, MD

Hometown: Brooklyn, NY, Los Altos, CA and Tel Aviv, Israel

Medical school: Sackler School of Medicine

Undergraduate: University of California, Davis

I was born and raised in Los Altos Hills, California; after graduating high school I moved to Israel and did a year of community service volunteering in an elementary school. Following that year, I returned to California where I started my undergraduate degree at University of California Davis, where I received my degree in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior.

Following my undergraduate degree, I decided to take a job as a research assistant for a company that developed vaccines for animals. I worked in research and development of new vaccines as well as quality assurance of current vaccines. After a year of research, I decided to head back to Israel for medical school at the American Medical Program at Tel Aviv University. During medical school I fell in love with the diversity of obstetrics and gynecology from surgery to primary care, helping patients in all stages of their life and healthcare.

I am incredibly thrilled to be moving to Pennsylvania to begin my career in Ob/Gyn at York Hospital! I absolutely love nature and am excited to explore all the outdoors that Pennsylvania has to offer. I am making the move with my adorable 10-year-old Border Collie-Labrador Retriever Mix Baloo, kitten Louie and my incredible husband who is a general surgery resident. In my free time I enjoy hiking, running, and baking.

Meghan Scantlebury, DO

Hometown: Richmond, Rhode Island

Undergraduate: Brandeis University, Waltham, MA

I was born and raised in small town in southern Rhode Island. I completed my undergraduate degree at Brandeis University where I was indecisive and majored in biochemistry, biology, and chemistry. It was through volunteering opportunities in college that I was first able to explore my interests in women’s and reproductive health. After graduating, I moved back to southern RI and spent the next two years working as a scribe in the emergency department and volunteering as an EMT for a small beach town.

Living a short drive to the ocean almost my whole life, I couldn’t resist continuing my education at the University of New England in Maine for medical school. During my fourth year of medical school, I had the opportunity to complete an audition rotation at WellSpan Hospital and loved my experience with the program, attendings, and residents that I was able to work with. When I’m not at the hospital, I can be found dabbling in one of my many hobbies including hiking to waterfalls with my partner, canoeing, baking, playing board games, and drawing.

Andrea Sanchez Velazquez, MD

Hometown: Caguas, Carolina, San Juan

Undergraduate: University of Puerto Rico - Cayey, USA

Hi all!! I'm born and raised in Puerto Rico where I completed my undergraduate and graduate education. After my bachelor’s degree, my interest in statistics and research grew and I completed a masters in epidemiology. On my third year of medical school, I found my people in ObGyn. I’m passionate about language concordant care, health disparities, advocacy, and healthcare access.

I strive to offer my patients a safe space that values vulnerability and validates emotions. ObGyn provides me the opportunity to provide life-long care, while at the same time developing nurturing relationships and being part of different stages of my patient’s life. In my free time I like to do my own gel manicure, watch formula 1 and bake.

Katherine Madden, DO

Hometown: Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania

Medical school: Virginia COM – Virginia

Undergraduate: Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA

I grew up just 2 hours north in Bloomsburg, PA and attended Ursinus College outside of Philadelphia for undergrad. At Ursinus I majored in Biology and Neuroscience and was a part of the women's swim team. It was here that I discovered my interest in medicine (and maybe even OBGYN) where I was involved in research studying cardiac hypertrophy in pregnancy! After undergrad I moved down to Blacksburg, Virginia where I completed medical school at VCOM and fell in love with the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. It is the one specialty where I felt I could best combine my love of medicine, surgery, patient education, advocacy, and community service.

I am so excited to have matched at York where I will be caring for such a diverse patient population and learning from some of the most supportive attendings. I could not be happier to move back close to my family and spend my free time catching up with old (and new!) friends.

Heather Brubaker, DO

Medical school: Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Virginia Campus

Undergraduate: Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA

I was born and raised in Lancaster, PA, and earned my undergraduate degree in Biology and Neuroscience from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. Following graduation, I took some time off before medical school to travel around Europe and the United States. After sating my wanderlust, I worked as a medical scribe in a Family Medicine office before attending medical school at VCOM-Virginia where my passion for OBGYN became evident during my third-year clinical rotations.

I love having the opportunity to work with women at every stage of life and to attend to their health needs. I am thrilled to return to central Pennsylvania to continue my journey with the OBGYN team at York Hospital! When I’m not working hard on Labor and Delivery, I enjoy traveling, reading lots of books, watching Formula 1, gymnastics, and hockey (go Flyers!), and spending time with friends and family.

Amy Morrison, DO, MPH

Medical school: Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine - California

Undergraduate: Cornell University Ithaca, NY

I was born and raised in sunny San Diego, CA before getting my undergraduate degree from Cornell University. I worked as a medical assistant in St. Louis, MO for two years prior to starting my DO/MPH dual degree at Touro University back in California. I did a general surgery prelim year at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, NY prior to starting my dream residency in OB/GYN here in York!

I am so excited to provide full-spectrum obstetric and gynecologic care to our diverse patient population and to be able to work with such a supportive, hard-working team. When not in the hospital, you’ll find me hanging out with my rescue dog, Bailey, watching sports (Padres/USWNT/F1) or the Bravo network, or getting brunch with friends.

Kreisha Medina Rodriguez, MD

Medical school: University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine

Undergraduate: University of Puerto Rico

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Chemistry at UPRM. My passion for science and community involvement led me to pursue a career in medicine. I fell in love with OBGYN because it offers the unique opportunity to be both a primary care physician and a surgeon. The continuity of care, the wide range of emotions, and the privilege of accompanying patients during one of the most significant moments profoundly connect with me.

In OBGYN, I have the privilege of being present during a patient's happiest or most challenging days, delivering diagnoses, performing surgeries, practicing preventive medicine, and building a community with my patients. Training in a diverse, close-knit community was my priority, so I am thrilled to join the OBGYN WellSpan family! I made the big move from my tropical island with a warm winter coat and my furry companion, Nickel, who is also scared of the upcoming winter. In my free time, I enjoy exploring the outdoors, traveling to new places, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Hannah Tenney, MD

Medical school: West Virginia University School of Medicine

I was born in raised in a small town called Buckhannon, West Virginia where I obtained my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at WVWC. I started slowly making my way further up the state where I went to medical school at WVU in Morgantown. While rotating during my third year, I fell in love with Ob/Gyn and all that it had to offer and soon made the decision to pursue it as my future career.

While on the interview trail, I was able to meet the wonderful folks at York Hospital and knew that this was the place I wanted to be! The faculty and residents made me feel welcomed from day one and I couldn't be more grateful. I'm ecstatic to be a part of the Ob/Gyn team and can't wait to serve this vast population and continue to educate myself each day! When I'm off the clock, I enjoy baking (mostly bread but I've gotten pretty good at cheesecake!), reading, crocheting, and spending time with my friends and family.

Josselyn Thornton, MD

Medical school: Loma Linda Univ Sch of Med, Loma Linda, CA

Undergraduate: Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI

Hello everyone! I was raised in Albany, NY where I had the privilege of growing up in a multicultural household with a deep connection to our local resettled Karen refugee community. My experiences with those I considered my unofficial grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and cousins instilled within me a desire to pursue medicine and women's health care in particular. I completed undergraduate in Michigan at Andrews University and went to Loma Linda School of Medicine in California for medical school. I completed my clinical years of medical school as part of a regional campus with AdventHealth in Orlando, Florida.

I'm very grateful that my journey has led me back to the northeast and look forward to calling York home. I'm passionate about culturally sensitive healthcare and strive to respect the myriad of experiences that each make us who we are. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my two cats, exploring state and national parks with my husband, and creating vibrant colorful portraits with oil pastel.

Arif Ahsan, MD

Medical school: The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, Burlington, VT

Undergraduate: Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ

I was born and raised in central NJ, and I stayed here to study Biology and Psychology at Rutgers University. It was also here that I served on the executive board for the Rutgers Bioethics Society for two years. Following graduation, I took two gap years which coincided with the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, I volunteered as a virtual ESL tutor for immigrants in my hometown and volunteered as a patient-provider liaison in the Critical Care Unit of Princeton-Plainsboro Medical Center (unrelated to the similarly named fictional hospital in House, MD).

I exchanged the Garden State for the Green Mountain State to attend medical school at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. I discovered my passion for Ob/gyn during my 3rd year clerkships, and in my 4th year I became one of UVM’s inaugural Ob/gyn 4th year education chiefs. Ob/gyn appeals to me because you can simultaneously act as a patient’s primary care provider, provide inpatient hospital care in labor and delivery, and be a surgeon all in one specialty. You also have the unique opportunity in medicine to be an integral part in not only your patient's most difficult times, but also their happiest, most unforgettable moments.

In addition to my clinical interests in high-risk obstetrics and gynecology-oncology, I am also passionate about LGBTQ+ and gender affirming healthcare, medical ethics, and medical education. Outside of medicine I am an avid musician and play keys in The World’s Afterparty, a jazz, ska, and punk-influenced band I have performed with for the past 10 years.

Luke Konur, MD

Medical school: Louisiana State Univ Sch of Med in New Orleans, New Orleans, LA

Undergraduate: University of Louisiana at Lafayette

I was born and raised in a small town called Thibodaux in south Louisiana. I have always been passionate about science and found a love for medicine working in a small emergency department during my undergraduate education. In medical school, I was fortunate to be able to pursue research in cervical cancer prevention and screening, which introduced me to the world of women’s health. In my third year OBGYN rotation I discovered the wide scope of practice that the field offers, and felt privileged to be able to do medicine, surgery, and primary care all in one field. I am thrilled to have found such a challenging yet supportive place to train in WellSpan York Hospital. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my partner Kacy and our cat Oliver, doing carpentry, mostly furniture making, and antiquing.

Jade Phillips, MD

Medical school: Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA

Undergraduate: University of California, Berkeley College

I grew up in Pennsylvania and left for undergraduate in California. In my gap years, I lived in San Francisco, and my time volunteering as a community health worker developed my passion for improving lives through reproductive health. Once I completed my OB/GYN clinical rotation in medical school, I was hooked on everything OB/GYN had to offer. I want to be the provider who supports her patients through the most challenging moments and is there whether in the clinic or in the operating room. During my interview with WellSpan York Hospital, I felt the dedication faculty and residents have towards creating the best experience to prepare residents who provide the excellent care for their patients. I have already grown so much and am excited to continue this journey over the next four years. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, exploring Pennsylvania, and watching reality TV with my cat, Ruth.

Claudia Rivera Barbeito, MD

Medical school: Univ of Puerto Rico Sch of Med, San Juan, PR

I grew up in Bayamon, Puerto Rico and headed off to Florida for my bachelor’s degree in biology and art. Prior to medical school I worked with a reproductive rights organization and through that experience my interest in reproductive health grew exponentially. I obtained my medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico and as a medical student I was involved in expanding medical student’s exposure to reproductive care while working on research that looked at the mental health impact of abortion restrictions and denial. As a resident, I strive to continue advocating for patients both in and out of a clinical setting and to utilize the skills and knowledge I gain to provide just and evidence-based care to my patients.

Outside of training I’ve been fortunate enough to mesh my love for poetry and essay writing with my advocacy work. I also enjoy oil and watercolor painting, hiking, playing tennis, binge watching reality tv and caring for my plants.

Valeria Santiago-Padilla, MD

Hello! I am proudly born and raised in Puerto Rico, the same place where I completed my college education and medical school. My passion for OBGYN was clear since my college years, where I spent my time researching the human papilloma virus (HPV). As my time in medical school passed, I was sure that OBGYN was the field for me. I participated in a project in collaboration with ACOG and my now co-resident Dr. Andrea Sanchez-Velazquez! I spend my days in awe of all the wonderful things I have the opportunity to gain experience in this amazing specialty. On a more personal level I enjoy a good cup of coffee, spending time with my family, and junk journaling!
